Your tasks
- Lead the China legal function, including one paralegal direct report
- Ownership of legal operations of sales contract in China: Create, maintain, improve and enforce legal templates, standards and negotiation guidelines; ensure fast processing, consistency, risk control and customer acceptance
- Business partnership with sales team and management: Challenge and support sales team and negotiate key contracts directly with customers
- Ownership of compliance topics in China: Personal information protection, export control, AI and cloud topics, etc.
- Occasional project work: Take the lead from a legal perspective for upcoming project work, e.g. new product launches and localization for China market for AI and cloud products; potentially legal project work in global or regional (Asia) projects
- Legal advice: Provide and obtain legal advice and handle legal tasks for diverse legal topics (Copyright registration, HR, compliance, etc.)
- Liaison: Act as liaison between headquarters legal counsel, China team, and external law firms in China
- Report to General Manager China; closely collaborate with global Legal Director
Your profile
- Chinese law degree, PRC bar
- 5+ years’ relevant work experience in in-house legal position or law firm
- Work experience in multinational company or international law firm; deep understanding of international work culture and quality expectations
- Experience in compliance, software field and AI/cloud topics is a plus
- High level of integrity and reliability with proactive and transparent communication style
- Pragmatic business sense to drive for positive outcomes that protect the company’s interests and win acceptance from all parties
- Personality: Smart and reliable in-house lawyer, who enjoys being close to business, improving contract processes, and occasionally taking ownership of China-specific legal and compliance topics
- Fluent/native Chinese; strong written and spoken English
