Internship (m/f) 100% - Internship in the Finite Element Solver department

AutoForm's Finite Element Solver specializes in simulating a wide array of sheet metal forming processes, incorporating both mechanical and thermal effects. Our software is designed as a special purpose code, offering solutions that are not only tailored specifically to our applications but also fast and user-friendly for our clients. Possible topics for internships include:

Topics

  • Implementation of a Segment-to-Segment Contact Formulation: Explore the potential benefits of modern contact discretization methods over our existing node-to-segment approach. This might enhance contact pressure distribution and reduce mesh dependency.
  • Symmetry Conditions in Elastic Deflection Analysis: Our software supports the simultaneous production of two symmetrical parts in sheet metal forming simulations, but this feature is not yet available in our press deformation analysis. This project involves integrating symmetry conditions to improve the performance of the tool deflection analysis.
  • Extensions to Our Blank Holder Model: In deep drawing processes, the sheet's outer edge is clamped between two tools. Despite these tools being modeled as rigid, our models generate a pressure distribution within this clamping area. This project seeks to refine these models to more accurately reflect real-world press conditions.

Your profile

  • Sound knowledge of engineering mechanics and numerical methods
  • Good programming skills in C
  • Strong technical interest, willingness to get involved in complex technical issues
  • Team Player with a strong commitment to problem solving
  • Good knowledge of English required. German would be a plus
